San Antonio schools secured $647,156 to enhance mental health services, aiming to train and retain professionals to better support students in crisis.
SAN ANTONIO — Schools across San Antonio and surrounding communities will receive more than $600,000 in federal funding to expand mental health services for students.
Education Service Center, Region 20 has been awarded a $647,156 grant through the U.S. Department of Education’s Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant Program. The funding will help schools recruit, train, and retain mental health professionals, including school psychologists, and support evidence-based services for students.
“Schools remain one of the most accessible places for students to receive mental health support,” U.S. Senator John Cornyn said in a statement, adding the funding will help schools better identify and respond to students in crisis.
The grant was authorized through school safety and mental health legislation signed into law in 2022. Region 20 is one of 65 grant recipients nationwide.
