The City San Antonio will present a study Thursday on the June flood that claimed 13 lives after cars were swept into Beitel Creek.
SAN ANTONIO — 13 people lost their lives almost five months ago when flood waters swept through the northeast-side taking cars with it.
The city is expected to give results from a study they commissioned to get to the bottom of what happened.
The City of San Antonio hired the firm Kleinfelder to really analyze how cars got swept into Beitel Creek. Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m., the results from that study will be presented.
15 vehicles were swept into Beitel Creek, taking 13 people’s lives with it on June 12. As we’re nearing the four month anniversary, Councilman for District 2, Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, who has seen the presentation and results, says the analysis did provide him answers to questions he was looking for.
“As leaders, what we really wanted to know was could this have been prevented?” said McKee-Rodriguez. “And what needs to be done to ensure that it doesn’t happen again? And I believe that even with the results of the study, we’re not going to have all the answers that we need, but we will have a list of things that we need to accomplish alongside textile, alongside the River Authority, alongside the county and state and, federal leadership.”
The councilman says that people will have a better understanding of what series of events or factors caused the flooding to be so catastrophic on the east side.
KENS 5 will be there when the presentation is revealed.
This is a developing story.
