AT&T and the city finished a project that’ll help expand fiber optic internet throughout the city.
This project has been in the works since 2023. That’s when the state got $ 3.3 billion to expand internet accessibility, and San Antonio got a piece of that pie.
The city signed an agreement with a AT&T to expand broadband access within districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6-, covering the east, west, and south sides of town. AT&T paid $13.3 million, and the city paid $8.8 million to expand that access.
AT&T has been building their fiber network since, and the company has already made a commitment of investing to close the digital divide across the country.
The city will have a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Monday to mark the completion of the project.
Now when fiber is available to those residents is still unclear.
