San Antonio church, other locations vandalized with ‘No Kings’ graffiti amid protests

Graffiti linked to “No Kings” protests defaced several locations in District 9, prompting cleanup and investigations by city staff and police.

SAN ANTONIO — Graffiti tied to the “No Kings” protests was found spray-painted across several north side locations, including a church.

Councilwoman Misty Spears posted photos on social media, stating that her office was alerted Saturday afternoon that several places within District 9 were vandalized with the graffiti.

“This is not peaceful protest or activism… it’s vandalism, and it will not be tolerated,” Spears said in the post. “District 9 and every neighborhood in San Antonio deserves to feel safe and respected. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and share updates as they become available.”

Pastor Ed Newton also posted images on Facebook showing graffiti with phrases like “No king but god” and “Jesus wants Trump gone,” at the Community Bible Church near Councilwoman Spears’ field office.

“To spew evil, spray paint this on our church, in a form of hate, causes me to question the very belief system of who participate, condone, and not condemn this kind of hate language and ideology. Let me speak to the statements of “Jesus wants Trump gone” and “No King Only God”!!! Can I tell you what “Jesus wants you to do?” Not to spray paint His church.  Not to vandalize, break laws, and honor the God you claim. If we can’t agree on this. Then there is a fundamental problem at the most elementary of levels, which is if the mission is to intimidate in the name of Jesus then I don’t think we are talking about the same Jesus,” Newton said in the post.

Councilwoman Spears said city staff, public works, and the San Antonio police department have been notified to begin clean up efforts and investigation efforts.
