San Antonio City Council greenlights new community center and park development on northeast side

District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee Rodriguez says this is a step in the right direction in his goal to build eight new parks in his district.

SAN ANTONIO — A new community center and park will be developed on San Antonio’s northeast side following a $2 million approval from City Council this month.

This park includes partnerships with the San Antonio Housing Trust, the city’s Neighborhood & Housing Services, and the architecture company Borderless Studio.

The new park will be located at the intersection of Eisenhauer Road and Midcrown Drive, taking up more than 8 acres.

Affordable housing will also be added to the site.

District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee Rodriguez says the area needs the park because he’s seen more industrial facilities and less green space along the corridor.

The councilman also says this is a step in the right direction in his goal to build eight new parks in his district.

The San Antonio Housing Trust used a grant from an inner-city tax increment reinvestment zone to purchase the property.

The city and Borderless Studio have also held community engagement sessions, surveys and workshops to determine how the property can be best used by residents.

Councilman McKee Rodriguez says the next step is putting out requests for a park design.
