San Antonio coffee spot brews ‘Twilight’ magic with themed drinks

The menu will be available throughout September.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s the most important question for any “Twihard” – Team Edward or Team Jacob?

But apparently, there isn’t a wrong answer – especially at a local coffee spot where all characters are shown love.

Aftersome Coffee, a quaint trailer currently parked on the far northwest side has created a “Twilight” inspired menu with delicious drinks that will make you laugh as you order.

Co-owners Allyson LeBleu and Ali Corbitt are offering “The Chailight Saga” menu throughout the month of September. The menu features drinks like “The Cullens,” “Eclipse,” “You better hold on tight, spider matcha,” “Bella, where the hell have you been mocha,” “You imprinted on my chai’ld?” and “The Volturi.”

And despite working flawlessly together, Aftersome Coffee is a divided business with LeBleu’s loyalty to Team Edward and Corbitt cheering for Jacob Black.

“I think it just gives people a time and space to be like their true nerdy selves and to watch them geek out is like so much fun because then we get to geek out, and then we get to like talk teams and talk vibes. And it’s been so fun to relive all of that, so, it’s definitely been worth it,” LeBleu said.

LeBleu said she noticed coffee shops creating Twilight-themed drinks when the movies first came out and decided to hold on to the idea, but before they launched the menu, LeBleu and Corbitt were worried the “Twilight” fandom might be too niche – luckily there were way more fans than they originally thought.

“Once it took off, people were getting really really into it and it just brought so many people to the trailer. We now have lines and lines and lines, LeBleu said. “It’s been so fun. What started off as like a hahaha kind of joke is now this, so it’s good.”

Aftersome Coffee’s twilight menu was also added to the popular “Twilight” Facebook group, which only heightened the craze.

“It’s just been wild. Everyone shows up in their Twilight merch, like people from all over Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Castroville, Austin, the valley and Corpus Christi,” LeBleu said.

The duo came up with the hilarious drink names by continuously re-watching the movies, looking for anything that would work for the coffee shop.

LeBleu said she was initially worried about mentioning the controversial imprinting between characters Jacob Black and Bella’s child Renesmee, but the drink quickly became a fan favorite – it’s even favored by LeBleu.

“It’s so good and you can customize it so many different ways. You don’t have to get it like you see on the menu. You can do pretty much whatever you want, we’ll do anything,” LeBleu said.

“The Chailight Saga” menu originally launched at Aftersome Coffee in August but due to popular demand they extended the menu through September. The owners plan to begin serving their Halloween-themed drinks in October.

And while there doesn’t seem to be a lull in customers, LeBleu and Corbitt stay on top of drink orders, mixing and serving as fast as Edward Cullen can run.

“Most of the time it’s just Ali and I, so be patient with us. We’re getting drinks out as fast as possible,” LeBleu said. And thank you to everyone that comes and stands in line. It’s so fun, like it’s been more than I think we could’ve ever imagined.”

Aftersome Coffee is currently located at 11618 Jones Maltsberger Road but since they move around often it’s best to check their Instagram for any and all updates.
