San Antonio coffee staple rebrands to honor west-side art and culture

SAN ANTONIO — A west-side coffee staple is undergoing a transformation this weekend to honor the area’s cultural and artistic legacy.

Shotgun House Coffee Roasters, located at 1333 Buena Vista Street, announced they’re rebranding as Mural Roasters. According to organizers, this transformation will highlight the iconic west-side murals that showcase stories of labor, immigration, resistance and pride. The rebrand officially launches this upcoming weekend at the San Antonio Coffee Festival,  where the community can explore the new brand, try the latest roasts, and celebrate the fresh look.

“Mural is written the same in English and Spanish, a small but meaningful reflection of a Mexican-American community where language, identity, and daily life naturally overlap,” Eduardo Bravo, co-owner of Mural Roasters said in a press release. “We are grounding the café in that tradition while doubling down on our relationships with coffee consumers and producers, strengthening the direct ties to the people who shape our future.”

Their new brand will feature a bird of prey inspired by the borderlands’ shared ecology. The predatory bird, similar to the hawk, is native to both regions, meant to show “a shared horizon rather than a dividing line.”

Organizers said that Mural Roasters will continue to be a welcoming space where all cultures and histories can gather.
