SAN ANTONIO — Cyclists from across San Antonio are set to gather downtown this week for the annual Ride of Silence, a global event honoring riders who have been killed or injured on public roadways.
The San Antonio Ride of Silence is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Main Plaza on Main Avenue. The ride will start at 7 p.m. and covers about 10 miles through the city. Participants are encouraged to wear white in memory of fallen and injured cyclists. Helmets are strongly recommended, and riders are asked to follow all traffic laws during the event.
Organizers said participants will ride in silence at a pace no faster than 12 mph to raise awareness about cyclist safety and the need for drivers and cyclists to safely share the road. The event is organized locally by SATX Social Ride with support from ActivateSA.
This year’s ride will feature remarks from District 1 Councilwoman Dr. Sukh Kaur, ActivateSA Executive Director Joey Pawlik and City of San Antonio Transportation Administrator Murray Myers. Speakers are expected to address road safety, remembrance and ongoing efforts to improve cycling infrastructure in the Alamo City.
“The Ride of Silence serves as a powerful reminder of the vulnerabilities cyclists face and the need for mutual respect on our roads,” Jeff Moore, president of SATX Social Ride said in a press release. “It’s a moment for our community to come together in reflection and advocacy for safer streets.”
According to TxDOT crash records, 35 cyclists were killed and 117 seriously injured in crashes between 2021 and 2025. In 2025 alone, six cyclists were killed and 15 seriously injured. Organizers also noted one cyclist death has already been reported in 2026: Mark Anthony Morales.
Organizers said the Ride of Silence is weather permitting. If severe weather impacts the event, a rain date is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. Updates will be posted on the ActivateSA website and the organization’s social media pages.
