San Antonio drivers to face Loop 1604, I-10 closures this weekend

Several stretches of mainlanes and frontage roads will shut down between Friday night and Monday morning.

SAN ANTONIO — Drivers in San Antonio should expect multiple closures around Loop 1604 and I-10 this weekend as TxDOT crews continue work on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. Several stretches of mainlanes and frontage roads will shut down between Friday night and Monday morning, affecting some of the busiest interchanges in the city.

Friday night closures (Nov. 21–22)

9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday

TxDOT will close:

  • Westbound (WB) Loop 1604 mainlanes from the Lockhill Selma exit ramp to the interchange
  • WB Loop 1604 frontage road at the interchange
  • Eastbound (EB) I-10 frontage road north of the interchange

Law enforcement will direct traffic. Drivers should follow detour signs. Westbound Loop 1604 traffic will be routed to the frontage road, then to the WB I-10 frontage roads and Via La Cantera before reconnecting to Loop 1604 or I-10.

Additional Friday night closures (Nov. 21–22)

9 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday

Crews will also close:

  • Northbound (NB) and southbound (SB) NW Military Highway lanes underneath the Loop 1604 bridge
  • Loop 1604 westbound (WB) to eastbound (EB) frontage road turnarounds at the NW Military Highway intersection

Detours will move US 281 traffic to frontage roads and turnaround lanes at Gold Canyon Road, Stone Oak Parkway and other nearby intersections. Westbound Loop 1604 drivers will also be shifted onto the frontage road through the US 281 interchange.

Weekend closure continues (Nov. 22–24)

10 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday

A third round of closures will affect:

  • Westbound (WB) Loop 1604 frontage road at the interchange
  • Eastbound (EB) I-10 frontage road north of the interchange

Drivers will again be routed onto the I-10 frontage roads and Via La Cantera before looping back to Loop 1604 or accessing eastbound I-10.

TxDOT says all closures are weather permitting. Traffic officers will be staged in the area, and drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays and follow posted detours.
