AUSTIN, Texas — On Monday, dozens of San Antonio educators are going to Austin for a statewide rally for change in public schools.
Its a part of the Texas American Federation of Teachers legislative advocacy day with more than 400 teachers across the state showing up.
The San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel and the Northside AFT are leading the charge in our area.
Teachers are rallying at the capital for an educators bill of rights.
This calls for fair wages, a reliable pension, and increased funding for public schools among other changes.
Advocates are also pushing lawmakers to go reject Senate Bill 2 which would create a school voucher program funded by tax paying dollars.
Governor Abbott has mentioned school vouchers would allow parents to have control on what their children learn in school.
Public educators say school vouchers would take more money away from public schools impacting what they’re able to provide and offer students in the community.
San Antonio teachers will be loading up on Monday at the Northside AFT Union at 7:30 a.m. to travel to Austin.
The rally will start at 2:45 p.m.
