The family says the loss of their beloved Dd, along with the scams, have been an emotional and physical toll, and hope someone can help bring Dd home.
SAN ANTONIO — A northeast-side family is pleading for help after their beloved French bulldog Dd was stolen from their backyard, and they say scammers are only making things worse.
Ashley Martinez said her 2-year-old dog, Dd, disappeared two weeks ago after being let out into the family’s fenced yard in the Northeast Crossing neighborhood near Windcrest.
“She was just gone,” Martinez said. “Minutes later, we couldn’t find her anywhere.”

Security camera footage from a neighbor captured someone walking away with Dd in their arms. Since then, the family has been actively searching for the dog—posting flyers and spreading the word online.
Instead of helpful leads, however, the family says they’ve been bombarded with fake tips and scams.
“With the scamming, that just killed us even more because it would give us hope—like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s going to come home,’ and every time it was just like a punch,” Martinez said. “It was hard to go through that.”
Martinez shared that one person demanded money for dog food before giving a fake address. Another claimed Dd was being sold at a gas station and asked for gas money. A third person requested thousands of dollars for so-called “medical care”—none of which was legitimate.
The family is now offering a $2,000 reward for Dd’s safe return.
