SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio family is in New Orleans. They were in the area, of the French Quarter, several hours before the deadly terrorist attack.
Craig and Delilah Walter said it was a frantic start to the New Year. They woke up to several missed calls from worried family members after hearing the news of the terrorist attack on bourbon street.
“They were extra concerned and wanted to get in touch with us,” Delilah said.
Craig is from New Orleans and is a Katrina evacuee.
“It just let the winds out of ourselves,” he said. “It is just an extreme disappointment. I was talking to my family too and they are flabbergasted about what happened. They are really disappointed and really sad.”
Several hours before the attack, the family was near the area where it happened for the Sugar Bowl Parade.
“Just to imagine we were in that same area the same day, Delilah said. “We were there with both very young children both at the age of nine, and my daughter who is 16. “When we went during the day there was no indication that something was going to happen later that day.”
The family simply left heartbroken by what happened.
“It made me feel really weird in side because I don’t want New Orleans to be perceived as something like this,” Craig said.
The family said they went out to the Garden District in New Orleans on Wednesday. They said a lot of people were out and about living their lives. Craig said the people of New Orleans are strong and will get through this tough time.
