San Antonio family offers $100K reward to solve son’s 2018 murder

The 25-year-old was driving a friend home around 2:30 when he was shot and killed.

SAN ANTONIO — For seven long years, one San Antonio family has been waiting and hoping for justice. Their son, 25-year-old Alan Thompson, was killed in November 2018. Now, there’s a new push to find his killer.

San Antonio Crime Stoppers and Thompson’s family have announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Alan’s mother, Teresa Thompson, says the money won’t bring her son back, but she hopes it will prevent another family from living her nightmare.

“My heart will always be broke,” she said through tears. “When you’ve lost someone like that, it changes your whole family.”

Teresa remembers Alan as kind and affectionate, someone who never missed a chance to share a hug.

“He’d always give you a big bear hug,” she said. “Alan started what he called the ‘family four.’ We’d always give group hugs when one of us was leaving town. We still do it now but we’re just three. We still remember him every time.”

Police say Alan Thompson was shot and killed around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 9, 2018, while driving a friend home on the city’s west side near Stonegate Drive. Police say someone fired at his vehicle, hitting Thompson once. He lost control of the car and crashed into a utility pole. He later died at the hospital.

Investigators believe a fight earlier that night at a gentleman’s club may be connected to the shooting. Teresa says her son wasn’t involved in the altercation.

“Unfortunately, he was where he shouldn’t have been and took the wrong guy home,” she said. “From what we’ve learned, I don’t even think my son knew about the fight.”

Police say a maroon Cadillac Escalade was spotted in the area at the time of the shooting, but no arrests have been made.

Over the years, Teresa has kept her son’s case in the public eye, putting up billboards, mailing postcards, and sharing his story in hopes someone would come forward.

“Do the right thing,” she pleaded. “My son didn’t deserve it. My son didn’t even know these people – I’m positive of that.”

The $100,000 reward is guaranteed through next September. Anyone with information about Alan Thompson’s death is urged to contact San Antonio Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867).
