San Antonio firefighters work for hours to contain stubborn ‘apartment’ fire on northwest side

According to SAFD, the construction of the building made it easy for flames to quickly spread to multiple levels.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters were forced out by flames shooting from a small northwest-side apartment add-on early Thursday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Fire officials said the blaze broke out at the home located on the 1400 block of Lee Hall Street just after midnight.

Flames were still seen coming out of the home nearly two hours after crews first arrived. According to SAFD, the construction of the building made it easy for flames to quickly spread to multiple levels.

The stubborn blaze was difficult for crews to put out and fire officials said at one point, firefighters were forced out of the home because of how dangerous it was inside.

Firefighters finally gained control around 2:30 a.m. Authorities said no one was hurt and the building appeared to be vacant.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

This is a developing story.
