DEL RIO, Texas — A San Antonio fugitive accused of aggravated sexual assault of a child is back in custody after being captured in Mexico.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 34-year-old Isaac James Garcia was arrested April 10 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, by Mexican authorities with assistance from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.
Officials say Garcia had been wanted out of Bexar County and had evaded capture for years despite multiple law enforcement efforts.
After his arrest, Garcia was expelled from Mexico through the Eagle Pass port of entry and transferred into U.S. custody without incident. He is expected to be returned to Bexar County to face pending charges.
Authorities say Garcia was previously arrested in 2018 on federal charges related to transporting undocumented immigrants for financial gain, but later violated the terms of his release. He was subsequently charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child in Bexar County.
Investigators say Garcia had previously escaped detention attempts, including a 2024 incident in Mexico where he allegedly fled in a vehicle, leading officers on a dangerous pursuit.
U.S. Marshal Susan Pamerleau said the arrest sends a clear message.
“No matter how far you run or how long you hide, we will find you and bring you to justice,” she said.
The arrest was the result of coordination between multiple agencies on both sides of the border.
Authorities encourage anyone with information about fugitives to contact their local U.S. Marshals office or submit tips online.
