San Antonio gears up for 2025 Final Four with 2,500 volunteers who get special perks

SAN ANTONIO — The Final Four is almost here and it takes thousands of volunteers to make it a success – 2,500 to be exact!

Elena Wells is the executive director for the San Antonio local organizing committee for the 2025 NCAA Men’s Final Four.

“We’re super excited, we’ve been working on this since we were awarded in 2018,” she said.

But hosting this event is no stroll in the park. It takes a lot of people to make sure things run as smooth as possible – including where super fans need to go.

“We have volunteers inside the Fan Fest helping make sure everyone gets their waivers signed,” Wells said. “We’ll have volunteers at the tipoff tailgate which is in Civic Park it’s a free watch party.”

And the hard work pays off with a big bonus.

“You get great perks, you get volunteer uniforms, a nice Final Four branded shirt and hat, and your very own clear drawstring bag,” Wells said. “And then some invitations to attend the fan festival at no charge.”

She’s seen volunteers participate in every final four in San Antonio since 1998!

“I work with San Antonio Sports, who is our everyday sports commission we do lots of events throughout the year,” she said. “And volunteers are the backbone of our organization and they’re definitely the backbone of the Final Four.”
