San Antonio girl competing to become ‘America’s Most Artistic Kid;’ voting ends Thursday

Mia, a military child with a passion for fashion, leads in a national art contest for a $20,000 prize and a museum display.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio girl is competing in a national competition for the chance to have her art displayed in a museum.

Mia is competing in the Bob Ross America’s Most Artistic Kid competition and is currently ranked first in her group. The competition describes Mia as a creative young artist who loves bright, happy colors and shiny designs and dreams of becoming a fashion designer.

The winner of the competition will have their artwork displayed in a museum as well as appear on “The Joy of Painting,” and take home $20,000. On Thursday, March 12, the competition will narrow down to the Top 10 based on votes. Voting is free once per day and donations benefit Blood Cancer United. The public can vote for Mia by clicking here.

Competition officials said Mia is also a military child, so traveling to new places and experiencing new things sparks her imagination. Mia’s father, Joshua Candelaria, who is from Aguada, Puerto Rico, has been stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio for nearly three years.

“She mixes her imagination with her love of fashion to make pictures and ideas that are joyful and colorful. Her art is playful, creative, and always full of personality, showing the world how she sees and celebrates it,” the competition posted on its website.
