San Antonio highway shut down after two 18-wheelers crash

Drivers on the far Westside of Bexar County may need to find an alternate route around Highway 211. Two big rigs collided on the county highway near Culebra Road, sending one of the large trucks over onto its side.

“Crews are currently working a major accident on Hwy 211 just south of Tamaron Valley,” the Medina County emergency service district posted on Facebook. “The road is currently blocked in both directions.”

While folks on social media were quick to speculate about the cause of the wreck, noting big rig trucks speed up and down that stretch of nearly rural highway carrying loads to and from locations, the exact cause of the crash remains a mystery. However, images posted online seem to show one 18-wheeler struck the side of another truck, tipping it over onto its side.

It’s unclear how long it will take first responders to clear the scene, especially considering debris and fluids can be seen spilling from the overturned big rig due to the Westside crash, so drivers may want to find a workaround for the foreseeable future.

Apple Maps shows a large stretch of Highway 211 closed in both directions to traffic, leaving drivers to possibly use the more residential Talley Road to make their way home or to travel the county. At this time, it’s unknown if there were any injuries from the crash, but no reports were made from county officials.
