SAFD says flames severely damaged a home on San Antonio’s south side, likely caused by unattended candles used for lighting after the home’s power was shut off.
SAN ANTONIO — A late-night fire on the southwest side caused significant damage to a home on the south side on Thursday, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
SAFD said firefighters were called around 11:21 p.m. to a home in the 800 block of Hoover Avenue, where crews arrived to find heavy flames visible through the windows.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire but officials said about 70% of the interior of the home was damaged.
According to fire officials, the home’s electricity had been shut off the previous week and residents, who were not home at the time of the fire, had been using candles for lighting.
Investigators believe candles left burning when the occupants left likely caused the fire.
No injuries were reported, according to SAFD.
