SAN ANTONIO — Catering icon Rosemary Kowalski has died at the age of 100, her family confirmed to KENS 5 Tuesday.

Kowalski was a pioneering businesswoman who founded Rosemary’s Catering more than 75 years ago.

In 1946, Rosemary and her husband, WWII-veteran Hank Kowalski, started what is known today as Rosemary’s Catering, according to the company’s website. The couple started catering private events and expanded quickly, making a name for the Kowalski family.

In 1989, Rosemary officially turned the leadership over to her son Greg, and the firm was rebranded under a new name, The RK Group. The company expanded to include several other specialized services and event management. Kowalski most recently served as chairwoman emeritus.

The company also has a charitable division, RK Cares, which is heavily involved in community services and events.

She recently was honored by having a culinary award named after her at the first-ever Celestial Awards. The first recipient of the award was Diana Barrios Trevino, of the Barrios Restaurant Group. Both were honored at an awards ceremony at the Empire Theatre last month.

She was also recently announced as the 2025 Grand Marshal of the Texas Cavaliers parade taking place Monday, April 28, 2025.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
