The new terminal will include more space for Delta Airline’s airport lounge among other improvements.
SAN ANTONIO — Planes aren’t the only thing on the horizon at the San Antonio International Airport. On Thursday, San Antonio City Council approved new additions to the ongoing construction.
The San Antonio International Airport has been constructing Terminal C since the beginning of 2025.
In March, Airport Director Jesus Saenz told council, Delta Airlines told them they needed an additional gate and more space in the new lounge.
The contract capacity for the construction at the San Antonio International Airport was $1 billion dollars, but on Thursday city council extended the cap to 1.3 billion dollars to accommodate the additions the San Antonio International Airport was asking for.
The total contract is approved at 1.6 billion dollars, so the airport says the budget doesn’t change, just the contract capacity.
In addition to an extra 10,000 square feet for Delta’s airport lounge, and the new gate, the airport will also be adding a pedestrian connector from Terminal C to the new parking garage, and bridge work on the intersection of Dee Howard and Aviation Blvd.
The San Antonio International Airport released this statement to KENS 5 regarding the approval and the ongoing construction:
Work on the Terminal A Expansion (formerly the Ground Load Facility), Terminal C and the new parking garage is progressing on schedule and on budget. The Terminal A Expansion is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026, with Terminal C and the new parking garage on track to open in 2028. This progress is supported by City Council’s approval yesterday of a guaranteed maximum price for construction of the new terminal.
In addition to these projects, the airport is beginning a pavement rehabilitation effort on Runway 13R-31L to address needed repairs in select critical areas of the airfield.
The continued advancement of these projects reflects strong momentum in enhancing passenger amenities and positioning San Antonio International Airport to support the region’s continued growth.
