San Antonio man charged in fatal June DWI wreck dies by suicide, victim’s family says

The June 3 collision killed a 28-year-old mother, whose two young girls were in the car with her, according to police.

SAN ANTONIO — A 46-year-old man who had been criminally charged after allegedly causing a June wreck that killed a young mother took his own life, according to the woman’s family, who cited their attorney.

The medical examiner’s office says Colin Matthew McGuane died on Oct. 20. Court records indicate McGuane was indicted Aug. 27 on multiple charges related to the crash, which happened the night of June 3 in far west San Antonio.

That night, officials say, McGuane was driving the wrong direction when he slammed into Karina Ramirez’s car along the 3800 block of Harry Wurzbach Road.

Ramirez, 28, died at the scene. Also in the car were her 9 and 7-year-old girls, who spent time recovering in the hospital from injuries.

Loved ones previously told KENS 5 she was around the corner from home when McGuane, driving a pickup truck, hit them.

“She was the best stepmom my grandbabies could ever have,” Eashonne Wolford, the girls’ grandmother and Karina’s boyfriend’s mother, told KENS 5 in June. “A good God mama, a good auntie, a good daughter, a good sister. That was Karina.”

McGuane was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Later that week, he was taken into custody and eventually charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault with a vehicle.

According to court records, he had been released Sept. 18 on bond. His case summary confirms the case was closed, listing him as “deceased.”
