San Antonio man sentenced to 30 years for murder of man during altercation last year

Joseph Limon was handed a 30 year sentence after a jury convicted him for the murder of Gilbert Garcia in 2023.

SAN ANTONIO — A man will spend 30 years in prison for the murder of another man during a domestic dispute in the summer of last year.

The Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office said in a statement Tuesday that Joseph Limon was handed the 30 year sentence after a jury convicted him for the murder of Gilbert Garcia.

On June 14, 2023, an altercation between Limon and Garcia occurred when Limon arrived at the home of Yvette Rivas, the mother of his children. Upon arrival, Limon confronted Rivas about Garcia’s presence at the home and began to physically assault her. Garcia, who is the father of Rivas’ other child, stepped in to defend her.

That’s when Limon retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and shot Garcia in the chest. As Garcia attempted to flee, he fell to the street and Limon proceeded to fire at him again at close range.

Limon was later arrested after a short standoff with police at the residence. He later confessed to officers, which was corroborated by multiple witnesses and items of physical evidence.

This week, Limon was convicted by the jury and ultimately sentenced to 30 years in prison.

“This conviction reminds us that violent acts have devastating consequences, including the loss of a father,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales. “We are committed to holding offenders accountable and ensuring justice for victims of crime.”
