SAN ANTONIO — A man was sentenced Friday to 50 years in prison for fatally shooting a woman and attempting to shoot her husband during an incident outside a taco stand in April 2023.
Visiting Judge Melisa Skinner handed down the sentence in the 227th District Court to Roland Contreras, who was convicted of the murder of Gabrielle Felis Del Angel and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the attempted shooting of her husband, Jesus Del Angel.
Prosecutors said Jesus Del Angel was standing in line to buy food when Contreras approached him with a gun. Del Angel fled to his vehicle, where his wife was waiting. As the couple tried to leave, Contreras fired multiple shots, striking Gabrielle Del Angel in the chest. She later died from her injuries.
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Cynthia Olson and Rebecca Gorham led the prosecution, with support from victim advocate Rebecca Garza and investigator Bruce Hallonquist.
“Today we reaffirm our stand against violence,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement. “Our goal will continue to be seeking justice on behalf of victims and holding offenders accountable for their unlawful actions.”
