San Antonio Marathon debuts with historic Pearl District course for veteran support

San Antonio’s first marathon on December 7 promises a citywide celebration, featuring a historic course, veteran support initiatives, and festive events.

SAN ANTONIO — Lace up your shoes and get ready for the inaugural San Antonio Marathon this weekend!

Race weekend kicks off with a festive Friday Night 5K on December 5—think holiday lights, big crowds, and thousands of runners shaking off the jitters.

The marathon’s new USATF-certified course comes with a historic twist: for the first time ever, runners will dash through the Pearl District. Both the marathon and half marathon take place December 7, starting downtown and finishing near Civic Park at Hemisfair.

But this race is about more than medals and merch. San Antonio Sports named Face the Fight® as its benefiting partner, supporting efforts to reduce veteran suicide.

“As Military City USA, we couldn’t think of a more fitting partner,” said CEO Jenny Carnes. GOVX will also offer special discounts to veterans, first responders and military community members.

Organizers announced some of the sponsors in July, including Corona Premier as the marathon’s official beer—because nothing says “I survived 26.2 miles” like a light, 2.6-carb celebration at the finish line.

Fleet Feet stepped up as the official Run Specialty partner, promising to turn this year’s Health & Fitness Expo (Dec. 5–6 at the Henry B. González Convention Center) into the biggest Fleet Feet store San Antonio’s ever seen. Meanwhile, hometown hero H-E-B will keep finishers fueled with wellness-themed snacks.

Organizers say the event will be more than a race—it’ll be a citywide celebration.

Event organizers say that registration is sold out for all three races. Learn more at SanAntonioMarathon.com.
