Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones urges residents to provide input on new reports detailing strategies to enhance affordable housing and early learning access in San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO — Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is calling on residents to weigh in after releasing two major reports focused on San Antonio’s future.
One report addresses affordable housing, while the other centers on early learning and child care. Both documents outline new strategies and long-term goals for the city.
The reports reflect two key priorities for Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones: expanding affordable housing for vulnerable communities and improving access to high-quality early learning and child care across San Antonio.
Last August, the mayor called for the creation of a task force aimed at increasing housing for specific populations. Those groups include veterans with housing vouchers, people with disabilities, older adults and LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.
According to the mayor’s office, the Special Housing Supply Task Force developed recommendations that could be used to shape future affordable housing plans.
Among the proposals included in the 73-page report are identifying vacant or underused properties near transit corridors and medical facilities and converting them into housing. Other recommendations include advocating for increased federal funding for housing vouchers and promoting home-sharing initiatives.
City leaders say community feedback will play a role in shaping next steps as the mayor looks to implement the recommendations.
