San Antonio offering help for people dealing with traffic violations, citations

The court offers 3 ways to resolve your citations.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio is offering multiple options to help people avoid legal repercussions related to traffic violations and lesser charges.

From Feb. 24. through March 8, the San Antonio Municipal Court is assisting individuals with legal trouble related to outstanding city traffic and class C misdemeanor citations.

According to a press release, the court will open on two Saturdays and offer virtual court sessions to provide more opportunities for resolution as part of their annual Warrant Resolution Campaign. Citation and warrant status can be verified by using the Traffic/Criminal Case Search tool.

“Our annual Warrant Resolution Campaign gives people the chance to work with our judges and staff to resolve their citations without the fear of arrest,” Municipal Court Presiding Judge Carla Obledo said. “Clearing warrants helps people avoid escalating fines, legal issues, and challenges with employment or housing. Last year, the campaign helped our community resolve approximately 12,000 warrants.”

In-Person Option

In-person appearances are reportedly the best way to discuss situations and options with a judge. Normal business hours will remain Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and those with Class C misdemeanors will not be arrested.

But, if individuals are unable to visit during normal hours the court will be open on Saturday, March 1 and Saturday, March 8 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. with no appointment necessary. The court building is located at 401 South Frio Street. Free parking will be available.

Online Option

Majority of the cases, including traffic, civil and parking citations may be resolved through the Court’s Online Payment System.

Virtual Court Session Option

If individuals are unable to visit in person, the court will conduct online dockets for eligible cases via Zoom from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30p.m. on Friday, Feb 28., and Friday, March 7.
