SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio police officer suffered minor injuries and had to be hospitalized after a man assaulted him while he was responding to a family disturbance call on the northwest side, officials say.
According to police personnel on the scene, the unidentified officer arrived at an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Fredericksburg where he found “a couple arguing and hitting each other” outside their unit Tuesday around 8:10 p.m.. He tried to de-escalate the situation, which is when officials say things took a turn for the worse.
“The subject was very aggressive with him and started assaulting the officer,” SAPD Sgt. Daniel Gonzalez said at the scene. “The officer tried to place him under arrest and a scuffle ensued.”
The officer ended up receiving “injuries to his arms and hands” as well as a cut on his head when the unidentified suspect hit him with “an unknown object.” He was taken to University Hospital and the suspect eventually taken into custody; it’s unknown what charges he could be facing.
Gonzalez said the woman wasn’t hurt.
