San Antonio opens select pools for Memorial Day weekend with free ‘Movie in the Pool’ event

All city pools are free to the public, though appropriate swimwear is required.

SAN ANTONIO — Want to go swimming? San Antonio residents can return to select pools across the city this Memorial Day weekend. 

The City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department announced seven outdoor pools will open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Saturday, May 23.

As part of the celebration, the city will host a free “Movie in the Pool” screening of Jaws at Woodlawn Lake Park Pool on Sunday, May 24. The movie begins at 8:30 p.m. and no registration is required. Admission will be first-come, first-served.

The following preseason pools will be open Memorial Day weekend, including Monday, May 25, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • Elmendorf Lake Park — 3700 W. Commerce St.
  • Fairchild Park — 1214 E. Crockett St.
  • Heritage Pool — 1423 S. Ellison Drive
  • Kingsborough Park — 350 Felps St.
  • Lady Bird Johnson Park — 10700 Nacogdoches Road
  • Spring Time Park — 6571 Spring Time
  • Woodlawn Lake Park Pool — 221 Alexander Ave.

Officials said Woodlawn Lake Pool will also offer lap swim and aqua fitness Tuesdays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The city also noted splash pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at no cost. The Atanacio Garcia Natatorium remains open year-round with paid admission.

All city pools are free to the public, though appropriate swimwear is required. Children younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
