San Antonio parks in the path of totality for the April 8 eclipse

Don’t have plans yet for the total solar eclipse coming up? The city’s parks and recreation department listed the San Antonio parks with great views on the path of totality for the rare phenomenon set to leave many in total darkness on April 8.

The department will be hosting fun-filled events at nine local parks on the path of totality, according to a Facebook post from the department on Tuesday, March 19. Officials stated free pair of eclipse glasses will be at each location and at any San Antonio Parks and Recreation Community Center starting April 2.

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon completely covers the face of the Sun. Parts of San Antonio, and small towns around Texas, will be on the path of totality for anywhere from 3.5 to 4 minutes depending on their location. Those outside the path will see a partial eclipse, where the moon only blocks a portion of the sun.
