San Antonio pedestrian struck by hit-and-run driver speaks out about her injuries

The last few weeks for Raquel Baca have been agonizing after getting hit by a car at the intersection of Bandera Road and Hillcrest Drive.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police have released a crash report for a collision that happened on the 1500 block of Bandera Road. We’re learning today that the crash was between a pedestrian and a car.

After the night of April 6, Raquel Baca says her life is “shattered.”

“This person just ruined my life. I know it was a simple mistake but at the same time, it’s cost me financial stability,” Baca said. “It’s cost me everything in my life.”

Baca says the cushion from her jacket is what she feels may have saved her life.

She says she was walking home from her job at Bill Miller’s commissary at nearly midnight. According to the crash report, the accident happened at the intersection of Bandera Road and Hillcrest Drive.

Baca said she used the crosswalk.

“And so I looked,” she said. “I play it safe all the time. This car came out of nowhere. It was coming from where I was crossing and I didn’t see no headlights.”

The driver didn’t stop to help and took off. Baca was rushed to University Hospital.

“My liver levels are not working right,” she said. “I have bruised ribs and then of course I have a neck injury. I have two fractures on my hip. So one to the front and one to the back. I can’t sit for a long period of time.”

Due to her injuries, she says she can’t work and has fallen on hard times and doesn’t have food – so she’s set up a GoFundMe.

“I just want that person to be found and put to justice because this is not right,” Baca said. “I know some people might be in a hurry but it’s not worth someone’s life.”
