The recent floods across Texas have only increased intake numbers, especially kittens and cats, creating a compounding crisis.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Pets Alive! just completed another successful transport with 29 dogs and puppies of all ages and sizes, all eager for a second chance at life.
This time they traveled over 1,430 miles to Buffalo, New York on Friday, July 11.
Their journey was documented through heartwarming videos and photos—from scenic stops where the dogs stretched their legs and received belly rubs, to state line signs marking each milestone of the adventure. Whether on a beach or by the water’s edge, one thing was clear: these animals were showered with love every step of the way.
“This is why we do what we do,” said Justine Grier. “With so many unhoused and at-risk animals here in San Antonio, transports like these are critical to giving them a future.”
This transport allows SAPA! to find forever homes faster for animals who might otherwise be overlooked or at risk due to overcrowding. The recent floods across Texas have only increased intake numbers, especially kittens and cats, creating a compounding crisis.

San Antonio Pets Alive! transports dogs and puppies to free up space in shelter for influx of pets
SAPA! is urgently calling for more fosters, especially during this most recent flooding event. Local shelters are overwhelmed, foster homes are at capacity, and the number of incoming animals continues to rise—exacerbated by recent flooding and the peak of kitten season.
“We desperately need fosters—especially now,” added Perez. “Every pet we can get into a foster home opens space for another life to be saved.”
Another transport, this time with cats and kittens, is scheduled for Monday, July 14, in partnership with Animal Care Services (ACS).
On August 27, SAPA! will team up with Petco Love and Dog Is My Co-Pilot to send cats and kittens to Wyoming and Colorado, followed by another lifesaving flight on September 3 for dogs heading to New York.
