A San Antonio dispute turned violent, leading to two men facing aggravated robbery charges after allegedly assaulting a woman and stealing her phone.
SAN ANTONIO — Police say a relationship dispute turned violent on the city’s northwest-side, leading to the arrest of two men now facing aggravated robbery charges.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the incident happened on November 24.
Investigators say the victim, a woman whose relationship with one of the suspects has not been clearly defined, had been staying at Joseph Hernandez’s home for about a week before the alleged robbery.
Police say the woman and Hernandez got into an argument that day, prompting her to leave and go to a friend’s house. Later, officers say the two agreed to meet again, and Hernandez offered to pick her up.
Hernandez arrived with his friend, Jovanni Garcia, police say. The woman got into the vehicle believing she was being taken back home. During the drive, she reportedly became suspicious after realizing they were in an unfamiliar area.
According to arrest records, Hernandez told the woman they were going to pick up Garcia’s younger brother. Instead, police say the vehicle ended up at a dead end on Prue Road, where the situation escalated.
Officers say Garcia then pulled out a shotgun, while Hernandez allegedly told the woman she had “screwed him over too many times” and demanded she hand over her phone. Police report Garcia then struck the woman in the head with the butt of the shotgun and threatened to take her belongings.
Investigators say the woman was eventually forced out of the vehicle, and the two men drove away. She ran to a nearby home and called 911.
Police also learned from the woman’s grandfather that Hernandez and Garcia had gone to his home earlier that day, claiming they were concerned the woman might hurt herself.
Officers later located and arrested both men at Hernandez’s home.
Hernandez and Garcia are charged with aggravated robbery and are awaiting indictment. The investigation is ongoing.
