San Antonio police fatally shoot dog after attack on family pet on northwest side of town

A cat was killed by two loose dogs in a neighborhood Sunday morning. Police responding to the scene fatally shot one of the aggressive dogs.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police responded to a report of aggressive dogs northwest of downtown San Antonio Sunday morning, following a tragic incident involving a family pet.

According to police, officers were called to the 2400 block of Glen Ivy Drive around 10:30 a.m. after a resident reported two loose dogs in the area. The caller said the dogs had previously attacked her cat, which required treatment at an animal hospital and later died from its injuries.

When officers tried to contact the suspected owners of the dogs, one of the animals reportedly approached them aggressively, putting an officer in fear of serious bodily injury. The officer discharged their firearm, fatally striking one of the dogs.

Animal Control Services was called to the scene, and authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing. Police emphasized that details are still developing and the situation remains active.

Residents in the area are urged to exercise caution and contact San Antonio Animal Care Services if they see loose or aggressive animals.
