SAN ANTONIO — Accused of dragging an SAPD officer with his car, police are searching for a man in his 20s after they say he escaped a routine traffic stop.
A police report says this happened on New Sulpher Springs and Southcross Ranch Road on Saturday afternoon.
Dragged all the way to a field and back, that’s what workers at a gas station nearby saw as a suspect took off, with an SAPD officer caught on his car.
Police say it all started when the officer, driving a marked patrol unit, pulled over a driver during a routine patrol.
While investigating, the officer discovered the man behind the wheel had active warrants for his arrest.
When the officer tried to take him into custody, investigators say the driver refused to get out of the vehicle, then sped off, dragging the officer down the road.
Witnesses tell KENS 5 this went on for quite a while, with the officer being dragged to a field down the road and back.
The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police continue their search for the suspect, who they say is a 24-year-old man who was driving a two-door 2021 Chevrolet Camaro.
We asked SAPD for any bodycam or surveillance video, but due to this being an ongoing investigation, they can’t provide it.
We will have updates on all platforms when they come in.
