San Antonio police investigate altercation that ended in stabbing on north side

Officers believe the incident appears to involve self-defense, though detectives will make the final determination on whether any charges will be filed, SAPD said.

SAN ANTONIO — An early morning confrontation on the city’s north side left one man with a minor injury and another being questioned by investigators, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Police said the incident happened just after 1 a.m. on Saturday in the 2600 block of Belvoir Drive.

According to SAPD, a man and woman were walking home when they were approached by an unknown man who began provoking them. Officers said the couple continued walking but the man allegedly followed and continued to harass them.

At some point, police said the encounter escalated and the unidentified man attempted to physically assault the male victim. During the altercation, the victim pulled out a pocket knife and cut the man.

Police said the injury was superficial. Investigators believe the unidentified man may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

Officers detained the male victim for questioning. At this stage of the investigation, officers believe the incident appears to involve self-defense, though detectives will make the final determination on whether any charges will be filed.

No other injuries were reported.
