San Antonio police officer charged for DWI following crash while off duty, SAPD says

The 18-year veteran was hospitalized after allegedly being involved in a crash earlier this month. He is the fourth officer taken into custody this year.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police department says one of their officers faces a charge for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a crash earlier this month.

SAPD officials said Thursday that Officer David McCall, an 18-year veteran of the department, had turned himself in to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

SAPD says the warrant stems from an Aug. 5 crash that BCSO responded to in the 3400 block of Coryell Cove. In that incident, records state, McCall had to be hospitalized after sheriff’s deputies found him in the driver’s seat.

The arrest warrant states that McCall smelled of alcohol as he was being taken to a local hospital. That gave authorities enough reason to issue a search warrant for his blood. On Aug. 12, toxicology results came back and allegedly showed McCall had a BAC level of 0.238 the night of the crash.

Back in July, an on-duty officer was arrested after an open beer container and a cooler of beer was found in his patrol unit.

This marks the fourth SAPD officer taken into custody in 2025; three of those were for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

SAPD says they are conducting an administrative investigation into this incident. McCall, meanwhile. has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of that investigation.
