San Antonio police warn of phone scam using spoofed city numbers

SAPD says scammers are posing as police and demanding money, urging residents to hang up and report suspicious calls.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are warning residents about a scam involving callers posing as law enforcement.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, scammers are using spoofed city phone numbers starting with 210-207 to make it appear the calls are coming from a legitimate source.

Victims are told they are under investigation or have an outstanding warrant, and are then asked to send money to resolve the issue.

Police stress these claims are completely false.

SAPD says officers will never call and demand payment or ask for money transfers over the phone.

Residents are urged to hang up immediately, avoid sharing personal information and verify any suspicious calls.

Anyone who believes they may have been targeted or victimized is asked to contact SAPD’s non-emergency number at (210) 207-7273 to file a report.
