San Antonio residents capture dramatic hail and flash floods during Monday night storms

KENS 5 viewers captured dramatic storm footage with hail and flooding across Bexar County and the Hill Country.

SAN ANTONIO — Many of our KENS 5 viewers had their phones out as Monday night’s severe weather pushed through South Texas.

We combed through many submissions to include in our shows.

Mariel Allardyce provided this picture of hail from the far west side.

The city’s northwest side also got some golf ball-sized hail according to Jaime Ozuna.

The largest piece of hail we saw was submitted from a home off of 211 and Culebra. Donna Mackay took the photo and her granddaughter, Kim Ratliff, is holding it up.

“We were just sitting here watching the news and then all of a sudden we heard this thunk on top of the roof. It’s either like somebody threw a rock on top of the roof or a baseball or something. We went out to look and there was big, huge hail in the ground,” said Mackay.

Mackay’s home and cars were not damaged in the storm, but she she says some of her neighbors had bigger pieces of hail that went through their roofs when it was raining.

This video from Terry Shader shows anyone leaving the airport was gonna get drenched hopping in the car.

This video from Blake Anderson shows the next challenge, driving in flooded areas like this underpass on I-10 near Culebra.

“We just drove slow as possible to get by it and there were a few people that were stranded because they did not get over and it was pretty deep,” said Anderson.

Anderson says he hit had to hit the brakes in the left lane and merged with other cars on the side to get across.

“Never put yourself in a situation that you’re going to put yourself in danger as well as other people that will have to come save you,” said Anderson.

Anderson also got this footage when he was leaving the San Antonio River Walk.

Water rushed through the area and hail as big as a grapefruit fell from the sky.

We could have more storms Tuesday night so you can share your photos and videos with us in the weather section of the KENS 5 app or text 210-366-0020.
