It’s a groundbreaking Mexican restaurant called ‘Mixtli’ that is is in Southtown, and now it holds the prestigious honor, a Michelin star.
These stars are awarded by the Michelin Guide, which was started by the French tire company in 1900 to encourage car travel.
This year, the guide expanded to Texas with inspectors judging restaurants in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio. After several months, the guide revealed its selection Monday night.

Austin was the biggest winner of the night, with seven one star ratings.
Houston snagged six one star ratings, while Dallas and San Antonio got one each. A one star rating means the restaurant has the highest quality of cooking and is worth a stop.
There are two and three star ratings but no Texas restaurants earned that last night.
Mixtli took home the top honor of the night.
Also up for grabs was the Michelin Bib Gourmand, which highlights restaurants that offer the best value for money. San Antonio’s Ladino, Cullum’s Attaboy, Southerleigh and The Jerk Shack proudly claimed that title. Two other San Antonio restaurants received the “recommended” designation, including Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant and Nicosa, which is at the Pearl.
And who knows, maybe they will be our next spots on Neighborhood Eats.
