San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame 2025 inductees announced

The 1999 championship-winning Spurs team headlines this year’s inductees.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame has announced its newest inductees, a 2025 cohort ranging from high school standouts to a milestone-reaching Spurs squad.

The 1999 Spurs team is responsible for winning the first of the franchise’s five NBA titles, dominating the Timberwolves, Lakers, Trail Blazers and Knicks to the tune of a dominant 15-2 postseason record. That run heralded the ascendance of Tim Duncan while cementing the legacy of another Spurs icon in David Robinson.

The Hall of Fame also announced it’s inducting Tim Derk, the first person to slip into the Spurs Coyote costume who entertained fans across 992 games at HemisFair Arena and the Alamodome before hanging up the paws in 2004. He is retired from the organization after a 34-year career.

Also set to be immortalized in the hall are Dr. Victor Rodriguez, Sharon Neugebauer-Shepard and Charlie Boggess.

During his 36-year tenure for San Antonio ISD, Rodriguez served as a pioneering teacher, coach and administrator (1957-1982). Rodriguez was the cross country, track and football coach at the former Cooper JHS, as well as at Lanier and Highlands high schools. His cross country teams won three city championships in four years and his 1967 Highlands track team was runner-up at the UIL state track meet.

Neugebauer-Shepard, led Jefferson High School to a volleyball state title in 1979 and went on to compete as a multisport athlete at the University of Texas at Austin. There she played volleyball from 1981-84 and ran track and field in 1982 for the Longhorns, reaching All-American status in both sports.  She led UT to 1981 AIAW national title in volleyball and 1982 AIAW outdoor track & field title. She was also a member of four SWC championship volleyball teams.

Boggess is the winningest high school basketball coach in the history of San Antonio. He started his tenure at Alamo Heights in 1978, where he kick-started a historic 37-year career as head coach.

Over the course of his tenure with the Mules, Boggess accrued a 785-309 record, including a UIL state runner-up finish in 1991, 10 district titles and two regional championships. He was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Class of 2025 will be formally inducted in a Sept. 20 ceremony at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
