San Antonio Spurs exercise team options for Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle

The Spurs’ back-to-back Rookies of the Year will play in the Silver & Black together for the foreseeable future.

SAN ANTONIO — On Friday, the San Antonio Spurs announced they are exercising their fourth-year team option on Victor Wembanyama and third-year option on Stephon Castle for the 2026-27 season.

Wembanyama won the 2023-24 Kia Rookie of the Year award and made the 2025 All Star team after becoming the only player in league history to have 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 blocks and 200 three-pointers through his first two NBA seasons. 

Castle followed up Wemby’s ROTY performance with one of his own as they won they award in back-to-back seasons. 

He finished his rookie year averaging a rookie-best 14.7 points along with 4.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds, leading all first-year players in total points, made field goals, total steals and made free throws. He was also unanimously selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Fans of the Silver and Black will be to watch the duo and the rest of this up-and-coming Spurs team for years to come as they prepare to take the next step towards bringing the franchise back to the mountain top of the NBA.
