San Antonio Spurs own the second-best odds at landing Giannis Antetokounmpo next season

The Spurs’ odds to land Giannis Antetokounmpo next season are second only to the Nets.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs are still in a rebuild, but are slowly coming out of it with Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and De’Aaron Fox as the emerging core.

But if the team wants to accelerate the rebuild, could they make a trade with the Bucks for NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo to add to a budding potent roster?

According to oddsmakers, they might!

Bovada released odds on where Gianni might be next season if not with the Bucks. The Spurs land second on the list with +325 odds, with the Nets ahead of them with -200.

Antetokounmpo on the Spurs would be enormous, especially pairing him with Wembanyama, Fox, and Castle.

Giannis (30 years old) would be another dominant scorer coming off a season in which he posted 30.4 points per game and 61.1% field goal shooting. He’ll thrive in transition and as a roll man next to Fox or Castle.

He could also relieve Wemby in the paint, providing the Spurs with a rim protector and a viable scorer. His size, speed, championship pedigree, and defensive versatility would immediately make the Spurs an instant playoff team and possibly a title contender.

However, Milwaukee will command a haul in return, and his contract ($62.9 million due in 2025-26) might make the Spurs have to gut the roster of key young players (Keldon Johnson, Castle, Jeremy Sochan, and Devin Vassell) and part with several draft picks. Also, would Giannis want to leave the Bucks to begin with?

For Giannis, San Antonio would be an attractive destination (if he wants out of Milwaukee), and he’d be the key to push the Spurs out of the rebuild and close to the top of the NBA.

But will the Spurs be willing to mortgage so much for the All-Star forward?
