San Antonio student dies after being struck by vehicle outside John Jay HS, authorities say

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio student has died after he was struck by a vehicle near John Jay High School back in September, according to authorities.

The district said an 11th grade boy was struck by a driver in a gray Ford F-150 while in front of the campus on Marbach Road around 2 p.m. The boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

The 33-year-old suspect remained at the scene and cooperated with police. SAPD said there are no arrests or charges pending at this time.

The school district released this statement following the collision.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, September 16, a Jay High School junior was struck by a vehicle on Marbach Road, directly in front of the school. The student was transported by EMS for injuries sustained in the accident.

Our thoughts are with the student and their family. The well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. The school community was notified about the accident, and professional school counselors are available to provide support to any students who may need it.

For juniors and seniors with parental permission, off-campus lunch is an option. To help with student safety, a crosswalk is in place and campus staff are present each day to monitor as students leave and return. The student involved in this tragic accident had utilized the designated crosswalk and school staff responded immediately following the accident. These current precautions will continue and the campus will be providing additional safety reminders to students.

We all share the responsibility of keeping our students safe. It is equally important that drivers be mindful of speed limits, especially in school zones and particularly during peak student travel times.
