San Antonio SWAT arrests knife-wielding suspect after 4-hour standoff

Police arrest a man after a four-hour standoff for attempting to stab multiple apartment employees in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — A tense stand off at a northwest-side apartment ends with an arrest after police say a man with a knife tried to attack multiple employees of the complex.

It started around 10:45 Wednesday morning at the Tribute at the Rim apartments off Worth Parkway.

Investigators say the suspect tried to stab two maintenance workers and when the security guard stepped in, the man tried to stab him too.

At one point, police say the suspect cornered the guard in the elevator but the guard pulled out his gun and the suspect backed off. But no shots were fired, according to police, but they say the suspect then barricaded himself in his apartment.

After almost four hours, SWAT negotiators were finally able to take the suspect into custody.

Both police and residents said this is not the first time they’ve had run-ins with the same suspect.

One neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, says she was concerned with the police presence here a few weeks ago.

“I just moved here two months ago. You’d think it was a relatively safe area. But that’s crazy the same thing happened today, was the same thing from two weeks ago.”

Police have not yet released the name of the suspect, but he’s facing at least one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
