
17-year-old accused of shooting five at Beach Marker 20 faces court Monday. Police continue to investigate the Saturday night incident.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — 17-year-old suspect Ernesto Castillo appeared in his first court hearing Monday following a Saturday night shooting at a Port Aransas beach that sent five people to the hospital.
During the hearing, Judge Melissa Madrigal, a magistrate judge in Nueces County set the teen’s bond at $100,000 and appointed a court‑appointed attorney to represent him.
Port Aransas police are investigating the shooting, which occurred late Saturday near Beach Marker 20. According to Police Chief James Stokes, a preliminary investigation indicates an altercation broke out between two groups on the beach.
During the fight, a firearm was drawn, and multiple shots were fired. Police say the victims are in stable condition.
Authorities have not released additional details about the motive, and further court dates for the teen have not yet been scheduled.
