The tail-wagging new space gives pups plenty of room to bark, play and zoom around off leash.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio dog owners have a new reason to paws what they’re doing and head to the south side.
The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department officially unleashed a brand-new dog park Monday at Concepcion Park, giving local pups a fresh spot to stretch their legs, chase tennis balls and sniff out new furry friends.
The three-quarter-acre park is packed with amenities designed to make tails wag, including separate off-leash areas for small dogs and big barkers alike.
There are also shaded picnic tables for humans who need a little ‘leash-ure’ time, dog drinking fountains to help pups stay pawsitively hydrated, and waste stations to keep the park looking fur-tastic.
City leaders say the project was funded through the voter-approved 2022-2027 bond program and the City Tree Mitigation Fund.
District 3 Councilmember Phyllis Viagran said the new park is about creating more welcoming green spaces where families, and their four-legged best friends, can enjoy the outdoors together.
The city also planted shade trees throughout the park, giving dogs and owners a chance to stay cool while living their best leash-free lives.
With the opening of Concepcion Park’s new dog area, San Antonio now boasts 20 off-leash parks across the city.
The park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., giving local pups plenty of time to fetch some fun.
