Another San Antonio Walmart is on track to get a major refresh in 2026. Lucky residents based in the city’s Northwest side will be the next group to benefit from the company’s “Store of the Future” market model.
It comes after a series of Texas markets, seven of which were in the Alamo City, received million-dollar renovations aimed at easing the shopping experience for locals and creating more modern shop interiors. The grocery giant hasn’t released the full list of buildings receiving a glow-up next year, but a few public record filings are spilling the beans.
Plans for the revamp coming to 9006 Guilbeau Rd, San Antonio, TX 78250, were revealed in a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) report filed on Thursday, September 25. The listing notes that the scope of work is limited to an existing 7,546 square feet of space, which includes the restrooms, pharmacy, grocery, and customer service departments.
This Walmart sits closest to the Stonefield, French Creek Village, and Northwest Crossing neighborhoods, which are also being spoiled with a new 7 Brew coffee location in the coming year. It also provides quick access to FM 471 and Loop 1604, making it a skip away for those running errands at the Shaenfield Ranch Center.
Investors are pouring $1.3 million into the remodel, according to the project’s TDLR filing. What’s making it cost such a pretty penny? The renovations are part of the company’s larger growth strategy, “Store of the Future.”
Markets like these feature larger grocery pickup and delivery sections, updated pharmacies, new grab & go sections, trendier apparel options, and “community-focused food and merchandise offerings,” a company spokesperson told MySA. They also include new signage, paint, and more shopping carts, a news release states.
Walmart’s first-ever ground-up version of the store launched in Cypress earlier this year, marking the beginning of its plan to convert roughly 150 stores in the same way.
Photos obtained by MySA offer those in the Alamo City an idea of what their store may look like after the construction is complete. Another location at 1515 N. Loop 1604 E and 8923 Military Drive W. will also undergo similar upgrades.
Alterations to the property will begin in April 2026, according to the filing. The store will not close as the renovations take place. Work at the site is scheduled for completion that summer, with a final finishing date listed as July 30, 2026.
