San Antonio wants to set a world record at its downtown New Year’s Eve celebration

Get your dancing shoes on… Wednesday evening’s celebration will be about making more than memories at Hemisfair.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Parks Foundation is starting to hype the city up for its annual New Year’s Eve celebration, featuring DJs, a family carnival, vendors and midnight fireworks over Hemisfair.

It isn’t just memories and a festive atmosphere organizers are hoping to make, however. They’re also hoping San Antonians come jam out in record-breaking style.

“This year, we’re inviting the entire community to join us for the World’s Largest Dance Party in downtown San
Antonio,” Mary Jane Verette, president and CEO of the San Antonio Parks Foundation, said in a release. “Celebrate SA is a chance for everyone to come together, spread good vibes, dance, and ring in the New Year—while uplifting our community and making history for our city.”

The foundation has enlisted DJ Celebr8 and Melange to conjure up the “nonstop dance vibes” starting at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively, at the Market Street main stage.

Festivities are set for other parts of downtown. La Villita will host a glow party with food, cocktails and DJ Men-Yo; vendors and food pop-ups will take over Hemisfair; and families can enjoy rides and games at a carnival in the lot behind Magik Theatre, or crafts at Yanaguana Garden.

It’ll all be topped off with a 14-minute firework spectacular, backdropped by the Tower of the Americas and other parts of San Antonio’s skyline.

The event is free and open to the public. Organizers say the New Year’s Eve party will happen rain or shine, with security on hand to “ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.”

Pets won’t be permitted (service animals are allowed), nor will guests be able to bring outside food or drinks. You also won’t be able to bring in coolers, large bags, chairs or backpacks—so make sure to wear comfy shoes that can hold up to plenty of dancing.
