SAN ANTONIO — Raquel Perez says she was riding her bike with her San Antonio cycling group, 210 Cycle Riderz, when she was attacked by a dog on the far southeast side.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) says the incident happened February 1 in the 14000 block of Streich Road, near Victor Braunig Lake and S WW White Road around 10 a.m.
“I don’t even remember how the dog got off of me,” Perez said. “I guess I blacked out. I guess went into like a mini shock.”
To Perez’s horror, she says she looked down at her calf and saw blood.
“There’s some cycling shoes where you clip into the pedal,” she said.” For the life of me I could not unclip. So the dog got me. Even if I would’ve he probably would’ve pulled a whole chunk of meat off or something. I just think of the what-ifs.”
What Perez was certain of were four rapid bites to her leg, leaving her with numerous puncture wounds. She says her group was preparing for a 60 mile ride.
BCSO says the dog’s owner confirmed the dog escaped the property and attacked the victim.
The sheriff’s office told KENS 5 the owner was cited for the dog bite, unrestrained dog and failure to provide vaccination records.
Perez says Bexar County Animal Services told her the dog will be put in quarantine for 10 days and will be released on February 11.
“It happened quick,” she said. “And I just thank God that I didn’t fall to the ground. Had I fell to the ground, I think he would have went full-on attack mode. Because he’s a vicious dog.”
